Student Hosts 2012

This year, we welcome former SUISS student Rhiannon Bolos from the USA, who will spend six weeks with us, Simone from Italy, who returns as a student host and will join us for four weeks, and Gonda Sanders from Belgium, who is also a former SUISS student and will stay with us for two weeks.

'My name is Rhiannon. I am from New York, and I am currently studying English Literature at the University of Edinburgh. Travelling, writing, meeting new people, and dancing are all passions of mine. I participated in the SUISS program in 2010 and it changed my life. Not only did I fall in love with the literature and writing at a whole level, I also fell in love with the city. The SUISS Program is the main reason I am here in Edinburgh today. Edinburgh reminds me of a giant village that is laced with both Enlightenment ideas and cosmopolitan advancements. This experience is going to give you all a chance to be immersed into many different cultures and into literature like never before. The staff, along with the tutors and lecturers, are all amazing and talented people. It is truly an honour to be a part of this program again. Plus, the summer is the best time to be in Edinburgh. I love to learn about other cultures and I look forward to getting to know all of you and sharing this experience in this wonderful city that has become my home.' - Rhiannon

'Hi, I'm Simone from Italy. I was a student host at SUISS in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Edinburgh means a lot to me: the Meadows, Arthur’s seat, the Royal Oak… how can I even try to explain this to you? After a few years away from Scotland, I felt it was the right time to come back to Edinburgh and live all this again with you! Be ready for the most exceptional literary experience of your life, and if this is not enough, add a big deal of fun, music and great company. Am I forgetting anything? Yes, you’re right, the Festival! I do make you a promise: you’ll never forget the time you’ve spent here…' - Simone

'Hi guys, I'm Gonda. For the past four years I've been studying English and Dutch Literature and Linguistics in Brussels. In 2010, I was a SUISS-student just like you and I can promise this programme is a great way to kick off the summer. The inspiring lectures and thought-provoking seminars got me hooked on Scottish literature, the SUISS-team was fantastic and my fellow students were always great company. I really had a wonderful time there, so I'm delighted to be back and join you for two weeks full of social and cultural activities, city strolls and memorable conversations. Can't wait to welcome you all in Edinburgh!'
